We know as a new parent you’re learning so much everyday.

We hope to answer some of your questions below…

  • A midwife is qualified to provide medical based care for the birthing person and their baby. This can look like checking heart rates, catching your baby, and making important decisions about your birth as needed. Your Doula focuses on non medical, emotional, mental and practical support. This can look like assisting in position changes, offering affirmations and encouragement, refilling water and snacks, and more.

  • Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of medicine focused on natural healing and balance. It believes that health comes from harmonizing the mind, body, and spirit. This is achieved through diet, lifestyle, and herbal or other medicines from the earth. At Pome, we use Ayurveda to inspire nutrition recommendations, create self care items, and offer body work to balance your systems in pregnancy and birth recovery.

  • A postpartum doula comes with endless resources, support, and guidance during the transition into parenthood, from the first few weeks to a few months postpartum. Support for the family often looks like suggestions for bottle feeding and bath time, help with preparing dinner, and more. She focuses on supporting the mother with the transition. This includes your mental and emotional health, your physical healing from birth, and your sleep.

  • We recommend interviewing your birth and/or postpartum Doula as soon as possible in your pregnancy. This gives you time to build relationship with them and keep them informed about your journey so they can care for you best. This also ensures their availability for your due date. However, if you’re close to your due date or already had your baby, fear not! This is still a perfectly okay time to find and hire your Doula.

  • Although having family and close friends present during your birth can be a blessing and a great addition to the birth process, we recommend that a professional fulfill the role of a doula. Birth doulas have specialized training in comfort measures, relaxation techniques, massage, pain management, positioning, and more, making them different from family members who give support. More than that, even though a professional birth doula is highly invested in your labor and birth, she does not share the same emotional connection with you as a family member does, making her the ideal unbiased support person to guide you.
