Karen Valcin worked for us as our maternity nurse in August 2020. We were first time parents and from overseas as our baby was born via a surrogate. I’m so glad we found Karen, she is gently by name, gently by nature. She talked to me all the up to the arrival of our daughter and helped me prepare, Karen was there the night we brought our daughter home and immediately stepped in and helped. Karen started out as a night maternity nurse but quickly moved in for 24 hours (although she didn’t work 24 hours!) She aided, thought and guided me through CeCe’s daily needs and quickly got CeCe into a very solid sleep schedule. Karen is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, so gently and kind and so very loving towards CeCe and us. Karen is also a teacher- you will learn a lot from Karen in the early days. That for me is so valuable.”

Karen was with us for 14 days during our most critical nights with our newborn, i.e. the day we got her home. She was booked for end of January. But, our Girl came on 30th December. When we informed her, without a hesitation she compromised her 31st night with her family and came and stayed with our newborn the whole night. She had her own 8 weeks old that time. I still wonder how she did that and mention not it shows how committed she is with her responsibilities for her clients. We are always grateful to her for this. She was with us only for 14 days but we still feel she was part of our family. She is very responsible, knowledgeable, nurturing and professional at the same time. “

Karen was with us every night between 9pm-7am, during which time she would take care of our newborn daughter. This would involve a pre-bed bath and diaper changes, feeds and soothing during the night. Karen helped our daughter get into a bedtime routine, something which she has been consistent with ever since we returned home. Karen was also fundamental in sleep training our daughter, getting her to the point where she would consistently achieve six hour periods of sleep, and was able to sleep through the full night by three months. When it was time for us to go home, Karen went above and beyond with helping us pack everything up and also helped with taking some of our luggage to the airport. It was obvious from the moment we started working with Karen that she was not only highly capable and experienced, but incredibly kind and patient. She made our first weeks as newborn parents all the more easier, and if we could work with Karen again in the future, we would do so without hesitation. We are more than happy to recommend Karen to any family lucky enough to work with her.
